Portfolio - 2D Art

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
― Edgar Degas
A request asked of their Dungeons and Dragons character. A Skulldog with dapper fashion and a teacup full of bone marrow.

Concept art of GG with a color scheme sheet, personality list, and her wonder catchphrase "I'm number 1!" Along with a better close up scaled profile of her. Pose also based off her sketch concept that is below.

Concept art of a character named "GG" that could be used for a game, comic, or just art in general. She as an arcade backpack that acts as a holster for her two laser guns and jetpack.

My first draft of creating a book cover I was commissioned for, "Welcome to Llawhaden" by Heather Crawford.

The process of the creation of my Twitch Icon gif using photoshop for both making this pixel art and animating it. The sketch was created in another application: Sketchbook. Below are other icons and art I made of my Twitch persona and past profile picture icons.

2D assets I created for the intro slideshow cutscene in the game, 'The Chopping Block', that gives the player bits and pieces of what's happening. The bottom two were unused assets.

An animatic that displays how depression affects me using the song - Time Passing Through by Kaden MacKay.

An animatic based off my mental health journey.

An art style challenge I did where I transformed my character, Poppy Sasaki, into a 90s anime girl style, heavily inspired by Sailor Moon. (BG does not belong to me).

The picture on the left but the grain effect is off.

Sprite animations I did for a potential Sprout video game that I am developing with a group in Game Development Club (2020-21).

A more child-like styled drawing of my two main characters of: Sprout.

Concepts of two characters who work together and are going out for a drink. Tatsuki (Left-Purple) likes to tease Ode (Right-Green) about his name. It is based around the 90s, you can really see it through Tatsuki's outfit.

'We're Never Going Back' was a powerful piece for me to make as an African American. During these recent events of prejudice and racism we can only look forward. We are never going back, and laws/policies should be made to build us up, not tear minorities down. Let's learn from history, not ignore it.

In my 'Art For Games' I made art for what would be good for a game! Taking in all that we learned and done through the semester, I made a Key Frame screen shot of my made up game 'The Adventures of Jean: The Pirate Queen'. It started out with a lot of sketches, character designs, color pallets, but here is the final product!

This slideshow shows a comic I am working on independently. I am teaching myself how to make comics and asking for advice and critiques as it goes on. Sprout is about Hinako who is a transgender boy and a human/plant hybrid. His father owns a farm and goes through life literally 'growing' into his own person. So far I have only the prologue and chapter 1 finished, but nothing is finalized and could be revised in the future. There can always be improvement.

In my 'Art For Games' class, one of the first lessons we learned was to sketch, and these are a variety of sketches of items the character in the middle (who I didn't draw or create) would have. Looking up references and given the freedom to put my creativity on what he would have, I made a rhyme book, boom box, a bed with surround sound, and headphones. These aren't ordinary items just from looking at them. The boom box is an actual weapon, like a machine gun, ammunition coming from the speakers. The headphones are for both communications, and broadcasting his voice, his rhyme book obviously holds all his raps and songs, but his words hold power. The only regular object would be the bed, but of course having good sleep is very helpful to any person.

Negative space sketches with a hand and a chair.

In my Game and Character Design class I had to come up with a game idea and that involved a character. From the beginning I've always had this character named Chip that took inspiration from Mega Man and Samus from Metroid. She uses environmentally themed weapons and she went over the course of a full semester of revisions of her design, story, and personality. As well as making my first ever clay sculpture over the course of 3 days.
